Apprenticeships

We know that as a parent, carer or educator, you want your child/dependant or student to have the best possible start to their career.  Helping them make education and career choices is very important.  Apprenticeships changed radically in 2017 and this has opened up a huge variety of learning opportunities that you or they may not have previously considered.  Apprenticeships provide an excellent way to obtain skills and experience and to build a solid foundation for your child's/dependant's future career.

The University of Cambridge is one of the largest employers in the city and currently has over 11,000 members of staff, spanning a range of academic, professional, technical, manual and administrative roles. The University of Cambridge is keen to engage people who are enthusiastic about learning new skills in the workplace whilst studying to obtain an accredited qualification.  This is part of its belief in providing both mainstream learning and a variety of other learning opportunities.

An apprenticeship at the University of Cambridge provides the experience of working at a world renowned University.

Three of the main reasons why apprenticeships are a great way for your child/dependant to start a career:

  • Earn while they learn: apprentices earn a wage whilst they work towards a qualification and gain work experience.
  • Many choices are available: apprenticeships are available in a large number of job roles and because they now also offer the possibility of attaining the equivalent of a university qualification, roles are opening up in a number of professions, as well as in technical roles.
  • Achieve an accredited qualification: the Government funds 100% of apprenticeships for 16-18 year olds which lead to a recognised qualification.
