Apprenticeship: Diploma in Leadership and Management Level 7
- Job title: Engineering Contract Manager
- Department: Estates Management
- Training provider: ACCIPIO
Why did you choose this apprenticeship?
I transferred my apprenticeship from a previous employer with the support of the Apprenticeships team and my senior leadership team in Estates Operations.
I chose this apprenticeship because it has versatile content that can be applied in many ways in the workplace. I want to progress to a senior leadership level and gain skills to be an effective and good leader.
What was your experience of the apprenticeship and your training provider?
ACCIPIO was a fantastic training provider. Their help and support were exemplary. As part of the course I was able to attend interactive group sessions and benefited from coaching and mentoring throughout.
What went well?
I completed the modules flexibly, finishing content, coursework, and assignments as opportunities arose at work. This allowed me to finish the apprenticeship faster than expected and secure a Distinction. Andrew (Director of Estates Operations) provided invaluable mentorship for my end-point assessment.
What have you learnt?
The key modules focussed on:
- Personal development of self and your team
- Strategic leadership
- Leading people to optimise performance
- Building relationships
- Communication
- Strategy and innovation
- Finance
- Behaviours
Culminating in a strategic business proposal.
Each module and the strategic business proposal had work-based assignments. This allowed me to integrate with many departments in Estates. It benefited my qualification and helped me understand wider operations and processes.
What next?
I want to use the skills and experiences from the apprenticeship to progress further within the University of Cambridge.
"I thoroughly recommend an apprenticeship to anyone seeking further development. It is one of the best ways to gain skills, knowledge, training, and experience in a work environment. The apprenticeship team at the University and the leadership team in Estates have been very supportive. I am grateful for the opportunity and have enjoyed the apprenticeship journey."
