Apprenticeship: Operations or Departmental Manager Level 5

  • Job title: Senior Research Associate
  • Department: Department of Veterinary Medicine
  • Training provider: Corndel

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

I chose this apprenticeship to fill gaps in my knowledge. As a research facilities manager, I understand scientific research well. However, I wanted to learn better management and leadership skills for my role.

What was your experience of the apprenticeship and your training provider?

Fantastic! The learning fits perfectly into your current job, making it 100% relevant. The pace is challenging but rewarding. The coaching from the training provider was excellent. Achieving chartered management status made the experience worthwhile.

What went well?

The questions and tasks helped me apply what I learned to my job. This method was effective and relevant.

What have you learnt?

I learned many things, including creating operational plans, managing projects, leading teams, managing change, financial management, talent management, and coaching.

What next?

I will continue to use what I learned to improve the research facilities I manage and support my own and others' development.

"The apprenticeship boosted my professional development. The skills I learned are highly applicable to my role and transferable."
