If you are reading this, the chances are you are now considering your future career options and deciding whether the A-level and/or university route is right for you.

Combining hands on training in the workplace with classroom based study and a salary is an attractive option and is a genuine alternative to studying full time for a degree.

Or you may be an existing staff member considering whether an apprenticeship could support your personal and professional development.

Are you ready to combine work with study?

Starting an apprenticeship is not just about on the job training.  Whichever level of apprenticeship you choose, there will be off-the-job learning involved and qualifications to earn.  Depending on which apprenticeship you are completing, this could be one day each week out of the work environment or you might do a block, lasting a few weeks or more, or all of your training may be within your work environment.  There will be assignments to complete and other off the job learning activities.

As you will be spending time in the workplace as part of your apprenticeship, you will naturally develop those all-important ‘soft skills’, such as communication and team work. These skills can only be gained through immersing yourself in a working environment, and are transferrable whatever path your career may take.

Do you want a chance of a more secure future and more earning potential?

Completing an apprenticeship will give you specialised skills that are in demand, and which, combined with work experience, ensures that you are in a great position to secure a permanent job.

Do you want to get paid while you develop your expertise?

When you join the University as an apprentice, you will earn a salary that will normally increase every year of the apprenticeship.  The University of Cambridge has agreed pay scales above minimum apprentice wage rates.  In addition, the cost of the training will be covered by the Government so your apprenticeship will not come at a cost to you.
